Yep, I went through that thread in detail. It's very close to what I'm looking to do, but I don't think it resolved - or at least not how I was hoping it would. I think I'm onto something now with an API call using CallWindowProc in User32 and WM_SIZING. It can be event bound. If it works for me, I'll post the solution.
