I've always found that the WHILE clause with the proper index kicks butt,
When rushmore came out and everybody was oohing and awing at the speed, I saw almost no improvement since I use the WHILE clause with a good index for a lot of my stuff. I have grown to appreciate the speed and ease of use of SELECT statements with rushmore, however.
