I have a windows application that gets data from a WCF Service. I would like to monitor in the windows application if a connection to the WCF is still possible. The application host pc does not have completely reliable Internet connection and thus I would like to find a way to monitor the access to the WCF Service.

I have monitored WiFi connections before and it is very unreliable. I ended up doing a periodic ping to keep track. I would like to avoid that again if there is a better way to test the service. Maybe a tiny little method that returns a boolean would let me know and catch any failure.
Any ideas?
