That's a huge subject in and of itself. I'm of the opinion that unless you're a provider of third party components or have a specific need, it's not worth the trouble to do it. All it seems to do is create more work with (in my eyes) very little benefit. I'm sure you can easily find a huge number of people who completely disagree with that assessment, though.
