We have discovered that using a COPY TO command to create a new report file often fixes report file problems, in fact we have built a standard 'rescue' program that does just that. Other reasons for 'freezing' when previewing are caused by incompatibilities between FPW26 and some video drivers on some fast machines. To fix this go into Settings - Display - Settings - Advanced Properties - Performance and crank the Hardware Acceleration down, this makes no noticable difference to speed, but fixes the freeze-ups.
