Perhaps you are right, perhaps it's all about moving more SQL servers.
But don't you think you're a bit biased considering you rely on your skill set with Microsoft products for your job, your status depends on skills certified by Microsoft, and you have continued work as Microsoft changes things over and over? Perhaps, as the very least, you will admit you are not a lawyer and your statement is not based on any professional opinion and just a guess? I don't know about your business situation, does your livelyhood depend on the sales of a product that competes with Microsoft?
But I agree with you, they may be in the same product categories. But they would have a much harder time competing with many other vendors if those vendors didn't have to re-tool their products. Don't take the above offensively, it isn't meant to be so. Be well.
