My mother recently responded to emails from her friends on this very issue. Here are her words:

But I should tell you, my former sister in law was chairman of the democratic party in Missouri. They all talk that way so much that they cleared the surrounding tables in a restaurant according to my friend the publisher of a business Journal I used to work for. The language was so disgusting and coming from 3 woman and one man was even worse. Nixon was known for that too but perhaps they all talk like that among friends. She brought one man running for the senate to our cabin we had in the high Rockies. Even he was embarrassed by her language but it's more common that we like to think. Sorry, I know you didn't want to hear that.

But again, I don't think we can overlook the fact that Obama is getting more agressive in his comments about the men in Iraq so he is gaining some understanding he didn't have before and is adjusting his statements. Which is my feeling that we can't just quit and we have to win as much as possible to retain our position.
