>>It's going to be very interesting to observe the Clintons at the convention next week now that it's clear Hillary will not be anywhere on the ticket. How much sabotaging will they dare do? Hillary will probably keep herself in check, living to fight another day. It's Bill who is the loose cannon. By many accounts he is still steamed about the primary race, and he is not exactly known for stifling his urges. I won't be a bit surprised if he uses his speech to stick at least one right between Obama's shoulder blades.

It's hard to imagine Hillary supporters ever voting for anyone as conservative as McCain. Staying home out of spite could be a problem, though. The Clintons could persuade people not to do that by saying we know you're disappointed but the best thing you can do as a good Democrat is vote for Obama. So far they have conspicuously declined to say any such thing. The closest was what Hillary said at the rally -- a rally celebrating her own campaign -- several days after Obama locked up the nomination, and that was pretty tepid. I just don't think either Bill or Hillary has it in their DNA to lose graciously.
