By "lingering" do you mean it is still on the internet after being posted sometime back at the beginning of February? That is hardly a hot story or anything new.
Every person in public life has security concerns. The "motivation" of the whack job that wants to become part of history by killing them may vary, but every person who steps into public life in the modern world takes precautions.
