>>Glad to announce a happy event: today I got on the bike and went to buy printer ink :). That makes it a total of four times this year when I got on the bike to do something useful, apart from burning calories and Joules (which also deserve a chance - some of my food is actually metric).

>Yeah. I buy green beans by the centimetre. ;)

Well, if so many of the nouveau riche back in the sixties were buying books by the meter ("pack me, then, meter and a half of Tolstoyevsky and a meter of Goethe")...

The recipes may be in grams. I've read one chef lamenting the conversion of recipes into imperial units when published for The Republic, whereas the simple proportions, of say, 0.2l of milk going with 100g of flour and 50g of sugar, or some such, are completely lost. Milk goes into liquid ounces, flour into cups, sugar into solid ounces... and you get odd numbers, you don't see it's 4:2:1 (or whichever nice simple numbers they originally had).

P.S. For anyone who ever writes a report or a label, plural of g is g, not gms - grams are grams, not gram-meter-seconds.
