I can got get into the details on this issue. But as far as I could judge (I made an extensive market research 4 years go), Omnipage was the only package with acceptable performance levels. Abby wasn't by the time I tested it.

I purchased a copy and was impressed. I used their batch tools, which I found extremely effective but never went into COM automation and would recommend against it concerning OCR. It is dammed too CPU-extensive.

My recommendation :
- an OCR "daemon" performing the translation of the input stuff into adequate directories (both tiff at adequate low res and text content),
- traditional text and tiff import from your VFP UI.

Omnipage can definitely get you there. Abby possibly as well but it was not effective at the time I tested it. I did tests quite a lot of alternatives (most of the market) by the way back at that time. Poor results....
