You have a point and I agree somewhat; however, I think it is not so much that they are more set in their ways and unwilling to change (there is that too, but that is more evident I think in their tendency to vote for a specific party even when that party no longer shares their political views because it has evolved over time and they have not), but rather I think also that they are not racist (someone who doesn't like someone because of their race) but rather prejudiced (judging someone before knowing who they are based on past experiences or information).

I see a lot of racism among young teenage blacks around the age of 16-18. I see even more among among latinos. I have probably known more latino racists (against indians) than any other. I see less among senior citizens. I do see a lot of prejudiced senior citizens though and they typically express it in ignorant statements and hushed comments. Most of that is from not being immersed in a really culture rich environment during their lifetime and having knowledge of other races only from the media.

That has been my experience, and like you, it is only my experience and maybe not a true reflection of this country at large.

Just wanted to add: I spoke with my mother last week and her retirement community has their own little get togethers and political chats. As a community, right now they are 50/50 for Obama/McCain. I was surprised. Her community is entirely white other than a few latinos and indians. No blacks at all that I know of and she doesn't know any. She has black friends, but none live in her community. Retirement communities are like little social centers. She is in Grand Junction, CO.

Something else that is strange. Here at my daughter's school, the senior class is 40/40 black/white. The class is 40% smaller than it was last year and there is a small number of asians, indians, latinos, etc but really half black/half white. Almost the entire class is supporting Obama with just a few young males supporting McCain. Those few young males who support McCain are VERY vocal though.
