I call a screen followed by a Read Events. When I quit the screen, debug shows me that the cursor is sitting on Read Events.

This is what I would expect to happen. READ EVENTS starts the event processing loop. Do you want to quit the application when you exit the form? If this is the case, you can issue a CLEAR EVENTS in the form's unload.
