>>>I agree. Especially since each country is only allowed so many contestants and they compete as a representative of their country.

One more time then. That is how the olympics is set up. It's also why there is so much corruption in judged events. I can't see how this is a good thing.

>>In any case, is that what you'd have done? Worked hard all your life, came second in MVP voting in the WNBA, got snubbed by your country, and then said to yourself, "Well, I'm an American and if Amerca doesn't want me, then I'm ok with that. I'll just give up my dream and have a hot chocolate"?

>Are you seriously suggesting athletes cannot or should not accept losing? This woman is still playing basketball and still has plenty of dreams open to her. She just didn't make the Olympic team. Playing for a different country after not making the U.S. team was the act of a petulant child.

No. Athletes have to know how to accept losing. What they should never learn to accept is giving up. You seem to be suggesting that she give up. And for what reason? So she won't look like a traitor to some people? Poor reason to give up.

And please. Stop saying she didn't make the U.S. team. She wasn't cut during a fair tryout. She didn't "not make it". She was snubbed. She owes them nothing.
