Yes, SP2 and Sedna would likely fix these problems per your article. The problem is that SP2 breaks grid tooltips (an absolute necessity for our clients) and causes some index problem that I unfortunately can't remember the details of at present.

Thanks for the help, but it looks like we're out of luck if this is the only solution that's been found for the UI repaint problems.
