>>>>>I'm starting a new job in Hawaii on Sept 2nd. Obviously I'm quite exicted about it - but also a bit freaked-out as I've never even been to Hawaii before. The job is on the Oahu island in Honolulu. Anyone out here from Hawaii? I know Rick S. from west-wind is out there, but looks like he's on a different island...

>>>>Wow! Did this come about suddenly or did you just wait to announce it?
>>>
>>>I accepted the job Wednesday, and they want me to start on Sept 2nd - so I got not much time at all to get over there. It's a 2 year contract so I'm gonna be there for a while too.haha.
>>>
>>>>IAC, that is really exciting. What kind of work are you going to be doing? (You're not switching to, uh, horticulture, are you? LOL)
>>>
>>>It's a VFP position - they need someone to help with an existing VFP app as they do a conversion to .NET (gee what a suprise). I'm hoping to poslish up my C# skills over the next 2 years while I'm there too. I have a feeling that this might end up being my last VFP job - they're all slowly disappearing. Anyway if I can get my C# skills up to speed maybe I can even stay with the same comany beyond the two years if I want....assuming I like Hawaii (and something tells me I will..ha)
>>
>>GREAT opportunity! Congratulations!
>>
>>I was very intimidated with learning C#. I kept starting and stopping. I would get a small app done and then have to leave C# for a long period simply due to time constraints while working on live VFP apps. Then, the conversion of a major app finally kicked in and I'm working about 50/50 now. Some days more time is spent on the C#. It really is an enjoyable process now and I look forward to more development in it. The faults I find are not where I expected (in the data handling) but in the reporting limitations.

>That's actually good to hear. It's the data handling situation where I was expecting the most frusration. One of the things I haven't messed wit at all yet is that LINQ thingy - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/netframework/aa904594.aspx but it sure sounds pretty cool.

www.learnvisualstudio.net has created some new videos to teach LINQ. It's worth investing in - cheap at twice the price.
