>>>>( joking, of course, and Inuit is surely the correct tribal designation for many of the population of Alaska who were there first. Not sure how many of them care, but for any who do, fair enough. Probably offensive to the Yupik, but I don't think they care either. In Alaska I think they use the term Eskimo without a pejorative connotation, though in Canada they are more sensitive about it since there is a more homogeneous native population and - well - because they are Canadians <s> )

>>>Well, can't say I care much really. And don't let the Canadian Census Bureau hear you calling anybody a 'Canadian'.
>>
>>Oh God - Canadian American? Citizen of the Multi-Cultural People's Republic of Canada? Canadien ou Canadienne ? Non-Mexican/Non-American residents North of Honduras? The Evolved Ones? Serfs Toiling under the Jackboot of the Mounties?

>We are what our multi-great grandparents were. Actually, I think they changed it last time around. Prior to that there was a great hew and cry because the Census did not allow anyone to answer 'Canadian' on the question about nationality. In fact they said quite bluntly that anyone doing that could be prosecuted for failing to properly fill out the census form. I think they've now added a second question about ethnicity. It was pretty hilarious at the time.

It's still hilarious. I'm glad to hear we don't have the market cornered on PC nonsense.
