>>>So then she fits perfectly into the "change" mantra, right?

>>If "change" just means having someone different. It remains to be seen whether she wants to make substantive, valuable changes. Certainly, having run against the machine in Alaska (which I hear is terribly corrupt) is a point in her favor.

>>OTOH, listening to her speak yesterday, she came across as very shallow. Now maybe that's just a matter of style. Hard to say on the basis of a single speech. But she's going to have to sound a lot deeper if she's going to convince undecided voters that she's a safe choice for one heartbeat away.

>On this I somewhat disagree. I think her speech lacked substance, but it did what she intended it to do (or McCain intended it to do). Besides, her speech was no less shallow than all of Obama's speeches throughout his compaign.

I think Palin's speech was not intended to be a grandiose discourse on promises (if that is what they call "deep" speech). I believe it was more an introduction to her background and road to up-to-now. One thing that strikes me is that she (and her family) seem to be very genuine. As oppose to phony Biden and Obamas.
