Agree with you. If you are religious (in a metaphorical sense) about your politics you get in trouble sooner or later. One should try to be objective (and it is hard). Look at the evidence while keeping an open mind and then decide who is the candidate you vote for.
I try to be a centrist because I think blind extremism often goes bad.
