>>>I just heard the news as well. It will interesting to see how this goes. I imagine those who will speak out against her the most will be those in her own party. I imagine the left will be spouting more government money and training on birth control :o)
>>
>>I like this paragraph And Bristol Palin is pregnant and will marry the baby's father, the Republican vice presidential candidate said Monday.
>>
>>All I could thing of on reading that was if he knows what's good for him

>>Kidding aside though, I imagine there are those out there to whom her daughter's pregnancy is important stuff. What I can't imagine, is why.

>I agree completely with Obama that the candidates' families, especially children, should be off limits. To me this girl's situation is none of my concern. But it's not hard to understand why it made the news. Her mother was chosen by McCain in part for her appeal to the family values, abstinence-only wing of the party. The situation would be the same if, for example, a candidate had a reputation for denouncing homosexuals and then turned out to have a gay family member.

>Please understand that the girl has my sincere sympathy. That's a tough situation to be in anyway, and now the whole world knows about it. I think I would want to go far away from civilization for a while. (Alaska, maybe <g>).

But isn't it ironic that if the girl had announced she was pregnant but was waiting for the outcome of the election to decide if she would have third trimester abortion this would be hailed in Daily KOS as a courageous choice.

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
