>>>Its unfortunate the way politics drags in the family. I imagine its (publicity) the last thing her daughter needs at the moment. Anyway more government money on birth control and education has to be a good thing.

>>And her mother saying "and of course, if you mean to tell them anything else but that sex is bad and they should never do it unless married or forced to, we cannot support such a disruptive and antisocial attitudes with taxpayer money we need for weapons".
>>
>>As for the "last thing needed"... the exact phrase (usually pronounced by a card player who sees the last card as the wrongest possible for any combination he saw in the cards in hand) went "now this is really as needed as a kid to a young girl". You can say it's proverbial upon proverbial... but then, it was her mother's decision to step into the spotlight, family and all, knowing fully well which machinery is waiting outside.

>What's odd to me is that McCain knew about this before offering her the slot. Not only did Sarah Palin volunteer it when they met last week (the first time they had met), his vetters had already learned about it. Didn't he anticipate that it was not going to play well? That main selling point of McCain being the wise, experienced one is looking a little iffy.

So you think this should have been announced at the press conference introducing the VP pick? My god.

This should actually have remained a private matter, but came out when it did as Daily KOS had been putting up stuff about Tag being Bristol's son rather than Sarah's.

One is reminding of Robert Welch at the Army-McCarthy hearings finally saying "Sir, have you no shame."

If Obama does not take advantage of this moment to refuse to speak at the Daily KOS convention he is not fit to be President.

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
