You'll have to set up the group in the Advanced Report Designer. The reason we don't allow grouping on a field that doesn't appear in the report is that it can be confusing to someone reading the report: it doesn't appear to be sorted in any logical way. However, now that we allow other fields to be included in the group header, I think we should revisit this.
