IF you can connect, than you already know the protocol, because if it's wrong, you won't connect at all. It must be the same on both sides. Once you connect, you should see the host in the NetworkNeighborhoood - and when you click on the name of the host in your left Explorer panel, the names of its shares should appear as folders in the right panel.

If this doesn't work (depending on the BrowseMaster setting, it may not allow you to see anything in the NwNeighborhood through Exploder), you can start a DOS session, and issue

NET VIEW

in the DOS window. You can also map a drive to the host's share:

NET USE S: \\servername\sharename

So you can copy your file to drive S:. Another good practice is to keep the modem monitor visible, to see the number of incoming and outgoing bytes. The moment you start copying, you should see it count, so you have a feedback.
