In that case, "Americans" is the group, and "leftist" is the renegade. Likewise, I did mention "anyone finding good sides of ... during cold war". So it is - the internal politics of a group may be national politics if the group is a nation, but that doesn't change the mechanism. Dissenters, specially defectors, will be perceived as renegades, and ostracized or accused of treason by the group's hardliners. Happens all the time.

Your point is? How is "What if you are just a murderer among normal people?" referring to any of this? What's the murderer's group of (perceived) oppressors of "normal people" that he's (perceived as) defecting to?
