>>Hi everybody,
>>
>>I need to change one of my reports to minimize asterisks printing in the total columns. Let's take one of the columns, for example. The format of the variable printing the total is "9999,999.99". It appears (not sure because I only get phone calls from the customer and don't see it for myself) that even when the total number is less than 9999,999.99 the report prints asterisks. The first thing I was going to do is to increase the width of the control on the report hosting the variable. But all total controls are so close to each other that they will overlap.
>>
>>So, my question is, is it ok to overlap controls on the total of the report? I think physically there is space on the paper but on the report designer the controls are very close to each other. And I am hoping that if I increase the width of the controls, even though they will be slightly overlapping, the issue will be resolved.
>>
>>Does it make sense?

>Yes, I have often widened the fields which ends up having them overlap. There is something squirrelly about how VFP calculates the room needed and often times it will fit .. but it doesn't think so. What is strange is often I notice when I have normal font in the detail section, and a bold font in the totals, each with the same format expression and the same width .. it's the normal font that gives me asterisks. I would think the bold font would be the one that messes up .. so there is definately something strange about the calculations.

>Just tweak the width a little bit and don't worry about overlapping so much. Sometimes when it has been a problem I have decreased the font by 1 and it's not that noticeable.

Thank you, Cathy. This is exactly what I did. I overlapped one Total with another Total column and in my testing it works.
