I was thinking about this a bit more - do you happen to have a lot more data on the hosted site vs. what you've got on your local dev. server? The default settings for WCF are useless. In both the server and client bindings you'll probably want to change most of the defaults: MaxBufferPoolSize, MaxBufferSize, MaxConnections, MaxReceivedMessageSize, etc. I think I ended up changing every single one of those settings except maybe the timeout.
