From my network knowledge, the limit is 100 meter for each piece of cable (UTP, which is the common networking cable), and you can have up to 4 repeaters (or hubs) between two computers.

If you suspect the network, you might check the connections; those may cause problems. It is also possible that the network cables pass close to emitters of electromagnetic radiation, such as heavy machinery.
