I think the perception here is that Mc Cain is not as extreme as the Bush Cheney camp. He may have had to shift to get the nomination and toe the religious right republican line but when (if) he gets elected he may allow his previous line in independent thinking to re surface.
As for President Palin I'd be happy and sad in equal parts. Happy because it would be very interesting and sad because she just may be a nutter and not the sort of person you want running your country.
