Just to comment on the valid not firing bit, the valid fires when the value changes. So trying changing the value in the getfocus of the control, pressing enter or tabbing out shuld then force the valid to fire.

If I click on the box and tab or enter to loose focus, both events fire (IC and valid) and the value appears. I guess I cannot see the forest for the trees. What would cause this to happen. It appears to get focus, even with the format = "KD", it highlights the textbox but tabbing or pressing enter does not fire any events.
