As far as I know, it is the act of apostasy that is punished by death in some countries. In other words, not "being non-islamic", but changing your religion once you have already seen the truth, so to speak.

In Iran, Bahá'ís have received the death penalty for a. apostasy (they were muslims before), and b. for converting others, away from the "true faith".

Other countries have their share of problems too. For example, in Egypt, to get an ID card, you need to specify your religion. Only three religions are "recognized" by the government: Christian, Muslim, Jew. Anybody else will either have to give false information about his religion... or abstain from getting an identification. As far as I know, this has especially been a problem for Bahá'ís, so far, but in theory it can cause problems to followers of Buddha, Krishna, Zoroaster, among others... and of course atheists.
Difference in opinions hath cost many millions of lives: for instance, whether flesh be bread, or bread be flesh; whether whistling be a vice or a virtue; whether it be better to kiss a post, or throw it into the fire... (from Gulliver's Travels)
