I implemented the following way to do updates:

I built an EXE that is a stubb program with following purposes:

1. Validate user access
2. Check for newer version
a. Gets current APP file date-time file stamp
b. Gets server APP file date-time file stamp
c. Compares time stamps -- copies from server if newer
3. Executes APP file

The APP file is the main application.
