I have a couple of credit card processing products that my software integrates with by dropping files that are picked up for processing. For PA-DSS compliance, those files have to be securely deleted, meaning that the contents of the file cannot be recovered using file recovery software, or other "forensic" means. Typically it involves overwriting the physical bits of the file several times with different values.
