>>Most likely it is a female, but there are men named Lauren as well. If it is a business letter, call the company and ask the receptionist or look up the company on the web and see if there is a company listing..

>Since IE7 crashed I lost that particular position I was going to apply. I need to search again and remember which one it was. Call the company is usually not applicable especially as in most cases you don't have phone number to call and I don't know how would this kind of call percieved.

Just be careful how you word it. Be friendly. They don't even have to know who you are when you call... You can tell them someone else scheduled a meeting for you and you would like to know if you are meeting with a man or a woman or come up with anything to get the information. Be creative :o) You can even tell them you are addressing a letter and would like to know whether it should be addressed to a man or a woman. You will most likely be speaking with a receptionist. If you are not comfortable with that, then just address it Dear Sir/Madam; but many people think this is lazy and won't read it or get an attitude about it. Better to use the full name as in: Dear Lauren Jones;

I think women in general are more sensitive than men about this because they have often spent a lot of time being the one composing business correspondence in the past and would like the same consideration. If that is a sexist remark, oh well! :o)
