Hi Mark,

So far VFP has worked properly with Oracle 7 and SQL 6 and 6.5. However, SQL Server gave problems when we weren't using the correct version of the ODBC drivers. For example, we got errors updating memo fields when using the the later SQL ODBC drivers with SQL 6 (the drivers which come in the MDAC pack off the web). When we reverted to using the older SQL drivers, the problem went away. Recently we upgraded to SQL Server 6.5 Enterprise and were working happily with the then most recent version of the SQL drivers. The other day we applied SQL Server Service Pack 5 (in its pre-release state) and then started getting problems with VFP. We downloaded the most recent copy of the MS SQL drivers and the problems went away! So we've basically found that we need to keep SQL Server and the client drivers closely synchronised otherwise we're likely to experience problems. I haven't tried the most recent Oracle 8 ODBC drivers, but the last version we had didn't work under Windows 98. In the meantime we've gone back to testing with Oracle 7.

By the way, I've been using Adaptive Server Anywhere 6.0 from Sybase and it's a great way of testing ODBC locally. It can emulate SQL Server so you can test all your ODBC on a fast local SQL engine (which is very intuitive to use).

Regards,
Jamie.
