>I have tried to import an Excel CSV file about 20 times now, trying different things, but it always says that it is not the right format. I've already read the help pages. What is wrong with this format in the A column of Excel?

Can you open the file with a text editor? A CSV file is only a text file, which Excel happens to handle more or less correctly.

Also, once you open the file with NotePad, check the separators. GMail may be expecting comma vs. semicolon or something.
