have you checked the server logs? Maybe the server rejects the connection because it is using the wrong authorization scheme? WM5 definitely is able to open UNC paths. A couple of things to check:

- The wifi connection must be configured as "work" not as "internet". Otherwise the connection is blocked from the device
- The name you specify must exactly match the servers NETBIOS name. You cannot use an alias, the IP address or a DNS name.
- The server must allow connections
- The mobile device must have an IP assigned from the DHCP server. Routing between the server and this IP range must be set up or both be in the same network.
