Your assumptions are correct. We have a form with a combo box and a mover control. The Combo box determins whether the user wants Custid, CustName, CustState etc. The Mover lets the user select items from each option. So this SQL could get quite large. My argument to my team here is that if the user selects 100 customers, they are doing something wrong. Those 100 customers must have something else in common that could be used as the filter. But your suggestion will make our final SQL code smaller.
