It appears that each entry in the memo field is terminated with the string I mention in the initial post. However, I can't put the thing back to together successfully. In the future I will make sure that each entry is headed with the primary key.
A problem is a problem only as long as it has a possible solution. Lacking that, it becomes a FACT!
