Here is how it all happened:
McCain called Obama. When Obama saw "John McCain" on the called ID he figured out the "political posturing plan" right away. So Barak let McCain's call go to voice mail and dialed McCain's number. McCain was at this time on the phone listening to the long voice mail greeting of Obama family (you know one of those "We are so sorry we missed your call but would be glad to call you.. if you speak slowly..and so on". So they left messages in each others voice message boxes. And that is where the confusing of who called whom first came about.
