If you bind a field to a textbox with the control source, VFP uses the field length for the MaxLength property. If this field is a C(4) field, the MaxLength value will be 4. The default behavior in VFP is that when you entered the maximum number of characters, VFP automatically moves to the next field. That's why you only see the problem, when the user actually entered the complete value. SET CONFIRM disables this, but requires that you hit TAB or ENTER every time to leave the coontrol.
