Guess you're younger than I am. The year I entered high school was the first time I was allowed to wear pants to school. I don't think school uniforms are a good idea (and would fight them in any district I was involved in), but I do think a dress code that ensures that all kids are covered enough not to be a distraction to others makes sense.
