Jim,

I am not disputing what you say, however I think you missed my point. See Sylvain Larin's repsonse to my original message. Maybe you don't, but some of us share that feeling.

I am just putting the finishing (VFP6 enhancements) touches on a proprietary framework, working with SQL Server 7 (cool stuff), and tinkering with MTS and ADO. I can talk endlessly about such things as the need for nested arrays, problems with Apartment Model code blocking for VFP6, and the sloppy code which exists for parts of the new framework which shipped with VFP6. So I'm in there learning all of this so I can better service current and future clients. I am fortunate - there are many programmers which don't have the time or resources to keep up as some of us do.

The funny thing is that many of my clients don't have a need (not yet anyway) for much of this stuff.

Another point I wish to make is that it seems that the days of the "stand-alone gunslinger" programmer consultant are nearing a close. It's probably to get with a good team and start specializing (I hate that word).
