I think they are all just running their three rounds (*) of blame shifting and pretending that they honestly tried to pass this (gas?), while intimately they knew they shouldn't, and won't. Bailout would be just bad, and it would be just an admission of impotence when facing this form of economic blackmail. Where would it end, and what would be next? "We need (you to borrow) 2 trillion (from us, at interest, then give it to us) by next Friday or the world is doomed"?

It better stop now - it may be cheaper. Also, it's very interesting to see which European PMs are jumping in now and saying "you better do this now or".
