>>>>>Interesting that the McCain camp states they were not aware of the book when she was chosen, although they didn't demand a new moderator but rather stated they thought she could be fair and would participate.
>>>>>
>>>>>I am surprised that everyone is ok with it. She clearly has a personal and financial stake in Obama's winning. She actually should pull herself out of the debate. I recall the dems refusing to participate in the debate held by Fox back when and everyone thought that was as it should be. Yet when the shoe is on the other foot... interesting... (just reflecting on coments in general from many, not anyone in particular)
>>>>
>>>>Here's the publisher's description of the book:
>>>>---
>>>>In THE BREAKTHROUGH, veteran journalist Gwen Ifill surveys the American political landscape, shedding new light on the impact of Barack Obama’s stunning presidential campaign and introducing the emerging young African American politicians forging a bold new path to political power.
>>>>
>>>>Ifill argues that the Black political structure formed during the Civil Rights movement is giving way to a generation of men and women who are the direct beneficiaries of the struggles of the 1960s. She offers incisive, detailed profiles of such prominent leaders as Newark Mayor Cory Booker, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, and U.S. Congressman Artur Davis of Alabama, and also covers up-and-coming figures from across the nation. Drawing on interviews with power brokers like Senator Obama, former Secretary of State Colin Powell, Vernon Jordan, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, and many others, as well as her own razor-sharp observations and analysis of such issues as generational conflict and the "black enough" conundrum, Ifill shows why this is a pivotal moment in American history.
>>>>
>>>>THE BREAKTHROUGH is a remarkable look at contemporary politics and an essential foundation for understanding the future of American democracy.
>>>>---
>>>>
>>>>It doesn't sound like it matters whether Obama wins or loses for the content of this book to be relevant and interesting. It's not a bio of Obama; it's a book about how we got to the point that Obama could be a serious candidate.

>>>I listened to her describe the book in her own words; it focuses on Obama and definitely is about him. It's only recently that the articles and interviews state it is about black political power in contemporary politics.
>>>
>>>Her description in the video below is lacking everything I heard in an interview with her. It is still clear though that she has a vested interest and should recuse herself:

>>Well, it's not going to happen now. I predict she will be a non-factor. Of course there will be those who will accuse her of bias if she lobs anything but softballs at Palin.

>As long as whatever she throws, she throws it at Biden as well. I can think of a few questions I'd ask him (a few I've posted here already)...
>
>He is on record inventing facts and making major gaffes...

>I don't like Biden or Palin as vps...

Me neither.

BTW, I just finished reading yet another of Lee Child's books which features the protection of a VP-elect from a mysterious plot. Child's main character is an ex MP named Jack Reacher. I think Reacher would be your kind of guy ;-) Have you read any of the books? They are great reading when you are in the mood for a thriller but not a dumb one.
