You mentioned that Set Delete does make a difference and this is what I found on this side as well. But, then, this mean that your benchmarks might be wrong because they do not reflect that. You have 7 minutes in 2.6a and 6 minutes 54 seconds in 5.0 which is almost the same. Or, I am missing something?
