Note the quote near the end about her feeling embarrassed as a Democrat about how Democrats have been running schools. You can see what a battle she is facing.

I've heard that studies show a correlation between the amount of money pumped into public school systems and poor performance. The more money they get, they worse the kids do. Of course, that might have something to do with the fact that most of that money goes for administrative costs. Memphis is one of the worst in the country, but I think I may be seeing some signs of a turnaroud. We have a new superintendent, and they are starting to do some things a little differently. We'll see....
