I need help figuring out why access to data in a SQL Server 2005 database is suddenly abysmally slow on my local workstation. The same code running against identical data is at least 25 times faster over a Remote Desktop connection!

About 10 days ago I ran scripts that convert VFP free tables to the SQL database the client's application uses. I copied the resulting database to the client’s server. Their installation runs as it always has, but mine is now miserably slow.

About the same time, and without a conscious choice on my part, Windows Update installed XP SP3. I don't know if this app's slowness is related or not. I don't see threads here or elsewhere about slowness after installing XP SP3. (It seems like everything is slower lately but I can't prove that.) I've culled through all of the "Services" that are running--many were changed by SP3--but don't see any obvious culprits. Have others had problems with SP3?

I took the workstation off the network and ran the application without a firewall and there was no improvement in performance.

Any suggestions how to troubleshoot this would be appreciated.
