He has a detective series ... the P.I's name is Elvis Cole and his partner is Joe Pike. There is also a "spin-off" series just about Pike, but I haven't gotten to them yet. I'd like to finish the Cole series first.

Yep, the "Prey" books are excellent, IMHO. I've read them all, in order of course (I'm anal about that when I'm reading any series), except the last one (I always wait for the hardcover to come out in paperback).
