As much as I am nervous about the Democrats understanding national security, I am so disgusted by the "Barack *HUSSEIN* Obama stuff and the "palling around with terrorists" attack that I am losing enthusiasm for the GOP. I don't like the Dems propensity for voter fraud (I'd probably not care if they'd just be old style Mayor Daley Chicago crooked about it instead of sanctimoniously talking about empowerment and and accusing anyone who objects of "voter supression") and I would bet money the web donation to the Obama camp are very very very crooked, but I don't like some of the antics of the Christian Right (not people of faith, just the gay bashing theocrats) . I am starting to increasingly feel I don't have a dog in this fight and am more focused on issues now than party or personality.

Obama will win and that will please the rest of my family, especially my biracial grand daughter so I will wish him well and hope the loony left is not as cruel to him in office as I suspect they will be.

Reading a remarkably good book right now called "Liberal Fascism" which is surprisingly not a polemic but a real political philosophy text, with very solid history. Since Jonah Goldberg wrote it a lot of folks will pass it by assuming it to be a right wing screed but it is hardly that.

>Still on another topic. It seems McCains campaign is coming off the rails a bit from the reports over here. Interestingly I've read in several different places that all the big US slumps/depressions have been preceded by Several years of Republican leadership.

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
