>>>>>>>>Gay marriage is legal now, in three states, but not Tennessee. Personally, I don't agree, but if that's what those states want to do, it's on them.

>>>>>>Did you include Connecticut in your three? The state supreme court just gave a decision that makes same sex marriage ok in this state now. Now there is a big movement to get an item on the Novemeber ballot to hold a state consittution ammendment process. I guess first we have to vote to have the ammendmend process and then tduring the process the issues to be ammended get discussed.

Some are saying that those that were married would remain as such but new marriages could not take place others are guessing that all of the marriages would be anulled. As far as I am concerned I don't really care one way or the other. IN my book there is the state institution of marriage which is a contract between two people and there is the religious sacrement of marriage which is governed by cononical law and little or nothing to do with the state legality issue. Oersonally I think if two people are running a household togehter then they should be entitled to the same legal remedies and social benefits that any household is entitled to. Whether that is called marriage or not is not really relevant to me as in my mind a religious marriage is outside the control of the government anyway.

>>>As far as I see it, government suppresses and prosecutes polygamy even if it is just a religious marriage arrangement.

>There are a few. This polygamy thing is one that really erks me too....sure there are your typical wacko's (warren jeffs and crew), but hey if you want to have more than one spouse, what's the big deal if everyone involved is all for it? I lived with the same two girls for years under one roof, each was a single mother with a daughter and the whole thing worked out great for years. There were a few neighbors that took a coupla years to get it though heads that a) we were not all 'married' b) we were not part of some nut-job bible-thumping religon of any kind. Now according to the law, in theory, since I lived with one of them for so long, we could of been considered "common law marriage" - and in some states even if we didn't want that title. ....and I suppose if some gung-ho jerk wanted to make a big deal of it - then in theory since it was for so long could of been 'common law marriage' to both of them, thus polygamy and thus, in theroy, illegal. Obviously we never had any problems like that - but the point is that if someone wanted to get at us for living together like we did there was a possibility that they could of really messed with us. Anyway, I don't see anything wrong with having more than two people involved in one relationship. Like who's biz is it anyway?

Agreed.
